Camilla Stephens and Mark Campbell

Camilla Stephens founded Higgidy in 2003, making handmade pies using good quality, kitchen cupboard ingredients.

Studying cookery at Leith’s School of Food and Wine before working at Good Housekeeping as a cookery writer and becoming Chief-of-Food at the Seattle Coffee Company (now Starbucks), Camilla has always been passionate about food and cooking.

She started making pies in her kitchen, naming them after the “higgidy”, or uneven finish that they got from being filled by hand with flavours that reflected the seasons. She and her husband, James, then sold their home to raise the company’s start-up capital, initially selling to family and friends.

Based in Shoreham, the company now turns over about £24m a year and employs over 250 people.
Many of us will already be fans, having found them in supermarkets including, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco and Co-op.

Camilla and James share the management of the company with Managing Director, Mark Campbell. After studying architecture at University, Mark spent five years managing the operations of humanitarian relief charities. In 2007 he returned to the UK to join his friend, James, and his wife, Camilla, in establishing Higgidy.

As Managing Director and Co-owner, Mark has overseen many different aspects of the business, from managing the growth of the brand, to leading its commercial direction.
